Good Morning and Happy Mother's Day!

It was my mother that taught me and I am so very glad she did.  Mom is the ultimate do-it-yourselfer and can make just about anything.  More so when we were children ~ from making our clothes to curtains to knitting our mittens and sweaters.  To this day, at 81, she still always has something on her needles.   She taught me the 'European' way, which is holding the incoming yarn with your left hand.  I've recently joined a knitting group and it makes me cross-eyed to watch all the gals knitting right handed, but ultimately, the result is the same.  Anyway - Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.

Today's stitch is the Double Cable.  Don't be intimated - this is so much easier than it looks.  Basically, you do a cable in the back and immediately do another cable in the front.  Or vise-versa, which will determine if the cable goes up or down.

This pattern has 6 repeating rows and is worked over 8 stitches. 

Downward Cable:


Row 1: (right side) Knit
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: C4F, C4B
Row 6: Purl

Upward Cable:

Row 1: (right side) Knit
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: C4B, C4F
Row 6: Purl

Repeat these 6 rows

I've used this stitich in a lovely new scarflette/neckwarmer that I call Flying Geese as it gives the illusion of geese in the V formation.  This one is knit with baby alpaca and is so incredibly soft!

Deep Rich Colors

Sometimes I like working with soft pale colors, while other times I get on a color kick and love working with deep rich colors.  This week seems to be colors!

Where did summer go?

Just last week we had sweltering temps here in central NY. Yesterday we woke up to 55 degrees. My youngest daughter started her second year at community collgege and after labor day, the school busses will be back on the roads. My garden is starting to slow down and will soon be ready to prepare for next year and the days are starting to get shorter and shorter. Where did summer go?

Cold weather is coming soon and I have a brand new scarflette that I am most excited about that is called Waves. The one below is the first one that is available and is made in a beautiful tan and is so soft knit with a wool and acrylic blend.


I wrote the pattern out while making it and my tester is already making sure there are no mistakes. Once she is finished, this pattern will also be available in my shops, so stay tuned for that! Sunday Morning

Warren has gone home and life is back to normal here. I will miss the little bugger but I know he is happy back home with his Mom and Dad.

We had severe thunder storms off and on yesterday and through out the night yesterday, but woke up to a bright sunny day. Daryl and I resumed our walking schedule (we certainly didn't need to walk when Warren was here - he kept us hopping all day long!)

But now, it's back to business. I knit up a scarf and a couple scarflettes last week and they are available on etsy and artfire. And I have finally written up a pattern for the classic cable scarflette which is being tested by a wonderful woman who has been knitting for 40 years. When she gets done trying it out, I hope to have it available for sale for $5 on etsy.

New this week is a fabulous wool/silk blend cabled scarf in lucious chocolate brown. This scarf is thick, soft and warm!



Also new is a wool/acrylic blend scarflette in a double seed pattern. Just right to keep off the chill and the natural color will look great with any outfit.


This new 100% wool ribbed cable scarflette in a rich deep blue is incredibly soft and warm.

Sunday Morning

It looks like the rain may have finally ended! I woke up to sunshine and warmth today after several days of rain. We went to Vermont to pick up our grandson who will be staying with us for the next week. Of course, he is adorable and super smart for 3 years old. But, I have forgotten how busy 3 year olds can be! It's been so dark and gloomy, I haven't been able to take any good pictures of him yet ~ but here is one in the bath.



Hopefully, today we will go to Sylvan Beach and I can get some good photos then.

On the ride to Vermont, I was able to do some knitting and I have a few new scarflettes in my shops this week. There are a couple more to come, so keep checking in!

This red braided cable scarflette is 100% wool and super, super soft. The red is very vibrant with white buttons ~~



This natural braided cable scarflette is a wool blend, using one strand of 100% wool and one strand of 80% wool/ 20% acrylic blend. Wooden buttons add to the simplicity and naturalness ~~
