Felted Wool Christmas Ornaments

These lovely ornaments have just finished drying from the felting process and will be boxed up for my co-worker and friend, Amy.

They are crocheted with lovely red wool with a strand of gold shimmery thread, stuffed with polyfil and felted for a solid closure. They hang with a white satin ribbon.

Amy asked me to make these for her as her very active toddler is getting ready for his first 'I'm mobile now!" Christmas.  With no shattering glass globes or metal hooks to cause him any harm, these ornaments are just the ticket for a safe and happy holiday!

Thanks for asking me to make these for you, Amy!  I had a 'ball'....

Sunday Morning Knit With - Old Faithful

This morning I finished one of my 'old faithful' projects while the rest of the family slept.

I call this project my 'old faithful' project because it is one of those projects that:
1) I don't want to think about the design as it is one that can be done mindlessly and I always can tell where I left off
2) There is no tracking a pattern as it is easily memorized
3) The result is a classic accessory that is easily worn and coordinated with my outfit of the day
4) A project that is always in my knitting bag, ready to take with me where ever I go

Basically, these projects are worked on while I am riding in the car, talking on the phone, waiting at an appointment or at knitting group when the conversations are so much fun that I can't concentrate on a difficult pattern.  (Know what I mean, April?)

The thing is with my 'old faithful' project is this - they seem to take forever to complete.  Because they are left waiting for a convenient time, I'm not in a hurry to get them done.  Although this one should have only taken a few days to complete, it has been with me where ever I go for the past month.

So, here it is, a classic red cranberry scarf  with cables.  I used large size 11 needles and double worsted weight yarn.  The yarn is two very very slightly different shades of red/cranberry that gives just enough highlight to the colors to make it more interesting.

I think it is a classic - after all, everyone needs a red wool scarf.  And this one is knit with Mission Falls Washable Wool for an ever so soft next to skin comfort.

What are some of your 'old faithful' projects?

Sunday Morning Knit Wit - Red Triple Cabled Scarf

Everyone needs a classic red scarf.  It just isn't winter without one!

I finally finished knitting up this super soft triple cabled scarf in 50% alpaca / 50% merino wool.   I will admit that it took awhile.  It was one of the projects that gets set aside and picked up again, over and over again.
But I made myself sit down and finish it yesterday and I'm so very glad I did.

It is a long flowing scarf with a great drape and is just so cuddly and warm.

Happy Knitting!

Till next week.....

Sunday Morning

It looks like the rain may have finally ended! I woke up to sunshine and warmth today after several days of rain. We went to Vermont to pick up our grandson who will be staying with us for the next week. Of course, he is adorable and super smart for 3 years old. But, I have forgotten how busy 3 year olds can be! It's been so dark and gloomy, I haven't been able to take any good pictures of him yet ~ but here is one in the bath.

Hopefully, today we will go to Sylvan Beach and I can get some good photos then.

On the ride to Vermont, I was able to do some knitting and I have a few new scarflettes in my shops this week. There are a couple more to come, so keep checking in!

This red braided cable scarflette is 100% wool and super, super soft. The red is very vibrant with white buttons ~~

This natural braided cable scarflette is a wool blend, using one strand of 100% wool and one strand of 80% wool/ 20% acrylic blend. Wooden buttons add to the simplicity and naturalness ~~

Stop in frequently on etsy and artfire this week to see new additions!

All Things Red

Valentines Day will be here in just a couple weeks. It is a time to tell your partner, your spouse, your children, your parents and your pets how much you really do love them. A day to remember all those little things that your family and friends do for you and to show your appreciation.

Wouldn't it be nice if we remembered that each and every day?

Today I pledge to say thank you with enthusiasm to my husband every day for taking out the garbage without being asked. I pledge to hug my children just because at least once a day. I also pledge to call my 80 year old mother each evening just to say good night and to remind her that she has been the biggest inspiration in my life.

I also pledge to smile when I am in the check out line at the grocery store, not cut off drivers on the interstate, and pleasantly say "I'm not interested" to telephone solicitors.

So, here is to red, the color of love... May you celebrate every day!

Don't forget to visit me on etsy, shophandmade and artfire.

New Winter Holiday Scarves

I just can't seem to put the knitting needles down lately. I came across some fabulous yarns recently and I am knitting them up into lovely scarves.

The last two are great for the holidays, either as a gift to your friends and family, or for you to wear to your holiday parties.

This red one has a bit of sparkle as there is a gold thread intertwined with the wool/acrylic/nylon blend. It is knit in a classic lace pattern that also gives it a bit of bling for parties, but is classic enough to wear everyday.

This shades of grey neckwarmer/shoulder wrap is made with a lucious mohair/wool/acrylic blend that is warmer than warm and softer than soft! Short enough to wear under your coat and classy enough to wear on the outside.

Both these scarves are available for purchase in my etsy shop. Order now for the upcoming holidays.

Celebrate America's Independence Day

It will soon be July 4th here in the US

Of course, most people do not think about wool or felted items during the heat of the summer, but I put my little brain in high gear trying to come up with some items that would reflect America.
How sweet are these hair ponies? Worn together or alone ~

Made with Goodie hair ties they are strong and durable. Embellished with either buttons or beads.

A set of Americana Nesting bowls will display your small goodies and keep your home organized.

This bright red vase is embellished with small white and clear beads around the neck. Envision this filled with fresh-cut wild flowers ~~~

These sweet Christening Booties will be treasured for generation!

Dress up your holiday outfit with these surprizingly cool felted blue bangles.

And don't forget your toddler - they need to celebrate, too! This ball is great for indoor play!

Get your colors on for this Independence Day ~ Red, White and Blue ~~

Enjoy your holiday~
