Today's Hooker Spotlight features warmandsoft ~ A fantastic shop full of crocheted items. My favorites are the shawls!


We are three partners in this shop!
My sister-in-law (Hatice) and I (Meltem) started this shop. My sister-in-law - Hatice is loving knitting and crocheted. Our friend Hulya with her brooches to join us. We are selling handmade warm and soft scarves, shawls, hats, mittens, gloves and great brooches in this shop. We are adding new items day by day.

Hooker Spotlight ~ Le ChatCrochet

As I was browsing around I came across this fun shop and realized she was a sister hooker! I love the variety in her shop and her unique and clever designs.



Here is a snippet from her shop bio:

"Im a quarter Swiss, quarter German and half Dutch girl born and raised in the Netherlands and have shared already more than half of my life with a French boy. I often long to see mountains, crave foreign food and couldn't stand to live in the 'narrow' countryside anymore. But yet I feel firmly rooted in the Dutch culture. Tulips are my favourite flowers and I'm proud of our sobriety. Frugality is a virtue in the flat lands where I grew up. Since I was a child I've learned to craft with scrap, leftovers and reused materials to save money. Now with the necessity to save our Earth reuse has a gotten new dimension. I'm proud to present you with Dutch design made exclusively with materials that were destined to have ended in the landfill.






I'm glad there is a lot of recycling and upcycling going on on Etsy and proud to be among such artists and sellers! Yet I still see a lot of yarn artists who buy new yarn for their creations where the materials are literally on the street. With all due respect I hope to open their mind a bit if they happen to stumble upon this shop. I hope to surprise the unsuspecting visitor who was just looking for a crocheted item with the beauty of reused yarn. This shop is filled to the brim with gorgeous hand knit and crocheted items for kids. The designs, colors and textures are beyond compare. And you will always find a smiling face! Booties, hats, scarves, dresses, and blankets are a necessity for little ones... buy why not get stylish, colorful and masterfully made?



Lisa tells a bit about herself:
"I live in the village of Brooklin in Ontario, Canada, and am a stay at home to two terrific children. I have been knitting for over 30 years. My mother taught me how to knit when I was 5 years old and I still have the very first thing I ever made, a pair of stuffed panda bears. I taught myself to crochet as a teenager, and I love both forms of needlework equally.

I try to have most of my items made and ready for shipment, but I also do custom orders. It usually takes me a few days for a hat or pair of booties and a week to 10 days for a baby blanket, it might take a little longer for hard to find yarn...sometimes I have to order it.

Most of what I make is machine washable, that's especially important for baby and children's items. In my experience, most knit or crocheted items get better with each wash. Washing instructions are included with each item when it is shipped".

I love how Karyn describes how her shop came to be:
"I started KnottyStuff as an outlet for my craftiness. Like many who have picked up a pair of pointy sticks in the past few years, I was ‘hooked’ immediately. I’m an ardent lover of anything fiber, and a day doesn’t go by that I’m not knitting or crocheting. I do aspire to learn how to spin and weave, but my head is brimming with ideas of combining crochet and knitting with sewing to make all sorts of knotty stuff!!!"

I can't help but feel warm and cozy when looking at her shop. Her photos are so great that I couldn't feel more welcome in her etsy store if I were in an actual B&M shop.

Hooker Spotlight ~ My String Theory

This week's hooker spotlight is shinning on a fellow felter ~~ well, technically fuller, but we accept felting.



mystringtheory has an amazing eye for color combinations and designs when making her jewerly and accessories. I would call her work fabulous, fun and funky! She teaches the strings by day and hooks strings at night... Come read more about her from her profile:



"I am a violin teacher by day, and a crocheter by night. And morning. And afternoon. And sometimes my lunch break. I began playing with yarn as a reward for completing my first year of graduate school, and it has grown into a fullblown obsession. After buzzing around practicing and teaching all day, I can't wait to get home to my yarn! It's my favorite daily unwind and meditation activity.




And here is her discription of felting (or fulling):
A Note About "Felting"
"Felting" or "fulling" is a process that shrinks crocheted or knitted items that are made of 100% wool. If a description says that one of my items is "machine felted" that means that I threw the product in the washing machine to shrink it. If it is "hand felted," I scrubbed the item over the stove in hot soapy water (with gloves of course!). A purse that has been felted does not need a lining because the shrinkage and agitation makes it pretty hard for keys and pens to poke through the fabric. On the hand felted items, stitches are still visible, but the item will still be sturdy enough to hold all of your goodies.

This week's Hooker Spotlight is shinning on AnnieDesign who specializes in unique hand crafted crochet accessories and applique.

Annie live in Ireland ~ the place that I have been dreaming to visit one day!


Her work is absolutely beautiful and knitters, hookers and all fabric artists can find a use for her nostaligic work. She has a way of mixing up colors perfectly and her designs are stunning! Come visit her shop to view more.

Hooker Spotlight ~ RetroCrochet

I was a young free spirit in the 70' which really was a groovy time to be a teen. And when I found RetroCrochet's shop, the memories came flooding back!

My first record album was Carol King ~ Tapestry and I listened to it over and over and over! I still know every word of every song. I watched the Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and who can forget the Gong Show!



I can't help but smile when I see RetroCrochet's work. Her shop is so sunny and bright. I can't image the work that goes into making these earrings with tiny strands of threads. Retro ~ keep up the great work.





I love the fact that styles and symbols that were popular when I was young are so popular now. It is so true ~ everything old IS new again.
